Online resources: In: Third Sector 5/7/2013, Issue 751, p18-18-18Summary: Lack of funding is an ever-present problem due a lack of success in convincing potential investors and a lack of adequate pledge that could be given to one. This is where crowd-funding could come in handy. The benefits of crowd-funding are that it tends to be more efficient than traditional fundraising, creates traction, social proof and validation. This dissertation provides a comprehensive study of crowd-funding, existing crowd-funding techniques and existing solutions in the country. The study concentrated more into the area of donation based crowd-funding. The collection of data was done through the use of interviews, document reviews and questionnaires which helped to show the improvements that need to be made on the currently available solutions. Analysis of the collected data was done using Google analysis tool. The results of the analysis were used in the formulation of the system requirements and in coming up with the design of the application. Agile methodology was adopted as the software methodology for developing the application. A mobile and web application was developed. The mobile application is used to view and donate to campaigns. The web application is used for initiating, viewing and making donations. It is also used by the administrator for management purposes. Testing was conducted by the potential users of the application. Majority of the respondents indicated that the application was user friendly and met all the requirements; majority readily accepted the application as can be seen in this dissertation.
