In 1428, France has been at war with the English for nearly a century. In a village in Lorraine, a sixteen-year old young woman peasant is inspired to drive the enemy from France and crown the Dauphin in Rheims' cathedral. Joan of Arc gains support, leads an army to many victories and sees the Dauphin crowned at Rheims. A sordid truce is signed with the English frustrating her zeal to drive the enemy from France. She is made a political prisoner and tried as a witch by an ecclesiastical court. Browbeaten into a confession of heresy, she is turned over to the English and is burned to death.
