Most Kenyan livestock farmers sell a cow hide for as little as three hundred shillings only, while this hide can produce eleven pairs of high quality shoes that can sell for as much as three thousand shillings each. Critical factors affecting the leather sector include lack of coordination amongst value chain players, lack of synergy and harmony amongst government ministries and lack of involvement by the stakeholders in the development of policies to guide the development of the sector.
