Abstract
The paper assesses the non-performing loan experience in commercial banks in Kenya. The objectives of this article is to highlight the determinants of non-performing loans and establish the role of incentives related to the liability requirements for the legal business forms and its association with non-performance of loans. The author uses an exploratory survey methodology that relies on secondary data from the Central Bank of Kenya publication. The paper eludes that external and business environment contribute to non-performance of loans in commercial banks in Kenya.
