N2  - The paper examines the concept of environment from different perspectives-environmentalist, ecologists, educationalist and explains environmental education as a process of educating people on maters and issues affecting the environment. This comprises homes, villages, cities, ffarmlands, water supplies, forests and weather. The ultimate goal of environmental education is education for human values and behaviour across the entire social spectrum away from wanton exploitation exploitation of nature and ecological apathy towards a new spirit and new habits, morals, ethics, ideals, principles, customs and lifestyles. 
Sustainable developlement is considered as meeting the needs of the unborn. This is put in the perspective of prevailing conditions in developing Third World countries with the proposal that school teachers play their indespensible role in imparting appropriate environmental knowledge and attitudes to communities.
