The objective of the study was to ascertain whether small food processing businesses in Nairobi County had in place legislated food safety practices and procedures. According to the Kenya Bureau of Standards, recommended FSMS were HACCAP, GMPs and KEBS codes of food safety. The study employed a Descriptive research design; the study surveyed 25 food processing businesses located in Nairobi, by collecting primary data through self-administered questionnaires. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics. From the findings, majority of small food processing businesses in Nairobi County were meat and dairy processors. The study found out that all the small food processing businesses interviewed, had implemented the Kenya Bureau of Standards codes of food safety, (60%) had adopted Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and (KEBS) food safety standards in combination. None of the interviewed businesses used Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) as a food safety standard. The study found out that (28%) of the small food processing businesses had employed a QA expert, the study also pointed out lack of understanding among some managers on the broader meaning of food safety.
