Learning how to delegate is no longer an option when managing. Today's managers and supervisors must delegate in order to survive. With more and more work being demanded of fewer people at all levels of business, each person must be able to use his or her time in the most productive manner. This downward push of responsibilities is invigorating and challenging for those who can handle it, and completely overwhelming for those who can't. Supervisors must spend their time on the jobs that only they can do -- and not on work that can be done by their employees.
Delegation can be one of the most difficult things supervisors must learn. So much is involved -- so much is at stake. The supervisor who refuses to learn how to delegate pays an even larger price in the end.
