Online resources: Summary: Electronic Medical Record is designed to alleviate the limitations associated with the paper record system and help improve the quality of care delivered and enhance user satisfaction in the health sector. Private healthcare institutions in Kenya have implemented the electronic medical record. Electronic Medical Record has often been promoted as an efficient means to deliver high quality care through rapid information retrieval and efficient data management. However, EMR have experienced high levels of user resistance (Van Der Meijden, Troust & Hasman, 2013). Lee (2014) revealed that there was high failure rate of EMR in developed countries, despite high level of implementation rate, it costs and it importance in the medical field. Le, Spurr and Bates (2016) found that overall user satisfaction is one of the main determinants of successful user adoption of EMR. According to the technology acceptance model (TAM), perceived usefulness (acceptance) and perceived ease of use (usability) are two fundamental determinants of user satisfaction and utilization. Thus it is important to ensure there is high user satisfaction so that there is a higher success rate for EMR. However much of the studies done on EMR have been conducted in the developed countries. This study sought to establish the determinants of user satisfaction with the electronic medical record in AAR Healthcare in Kenya which is a developing country in Africa. The study adopted a descriptive cross-sectional survey. The target population of the study was 250 members of staff from 18 AAR healthcare out-patients. Stratified random sampling technique was used to select the sample size of 151 respondents. The questionnaire was the selected instrument or tool for data collection for the study. The questionnaire was administered to each member of the sample population. The study carried out a pilot study to pretest and validates the questionnaire. Quantitative data collected was analyzed by the use of descriptive statistics using SPSS and presented through percentages, means, standard deviations and frequencies. The information was displayed by use of bar charts, graphs and pie charts and in prose-form. Content analysis was used to test data that is qualitative in nature or aspect of the data collected from the open ended questions. The study conducted a correlation analysis to establish the strength of the relationship between the independent and the dependent variable. Multiple regressions were done to evaluate the level of user satisfaction with the electronic medical record in AAR Healthcare in Kenya. The study found out that usability of electronic medical record is positively related to user satisfaction, acceptability of electronic medical record is positively related user satisfaction and coordination and communication of electronic medical record is positively related to user satisfaction. The study therefore recommends that the management of health institutions should promote usability of EMRs since this will lead to increase in user satisfaction, the management of health institutions should lead by examples by accepting the EMRs so that the subordinates may also accept them and the management of the health institutions should promote the coordination and communication.
